[What is the Red Cross Red Light-Up Project 2026 in Kanagawa?]
The event will be held around May 8th, World Red Cross Day, with the aim of raising awareness among the citizens of the prefecture about Red Cross Movement Month and the importance of "humanitarianism."
May 8th is the birthday of Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, and May 1st is the day the Hakuaisha, the predecessor of the Japanese Red Cross Society, was established. Therefore, every May is designated as "Red Cross Movement Month," and we call for understanding and cooperation regarding the ideals and activities of the Red Cross.
Through the "Red Cross Red Light-Up Project," we aim to reflect on the history of "humanitarianism" that our predecessors have walked, stand in solidarity with those suffering from conflict and disaster, and broadly appeal for understanding of "humanitarianism" by lighting up historical buildings and landmark facilities in the prefecture in red, thereby expanding the circle of "humanitarianism."
